The first Dominican Republic (DR) Merengue Festival was held in the Capital City of
Santo Domingo in 1967 as an initiative to promote awareness and enjoyment of the
country’s lively music.

The Merengue Festival is sponsored by the Brugal Company, the DR’s historic maker
of rum, and is one of the most delightful events held each summer in Santo Domingo.

This joyous celebration lasts for several days and brings together Dominicans and
visitors from around the world to enjoy the best Merengue orchestras, and unique dining
and cultural offerings.
